With recent concerns about fossil fuel prices, climate change, and environmental sustainability, new programs were implemented by the federal and territorial governments to promote alternative energy solutions, and to offer financial incentives for feasible projects.
This program provides funding for renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, wood pellet heating, biofuel/synthetic gas and ground source heat pumps. This funding is available to communities, commercial businesses and NWT residents.
The Energy Efficiency Incentive Program (EEIP) was designed to provide rebates to homeowners and consumers who purchase new, more energy efficient models of products that they use every day. Buying energy efficient products will help you save energy costs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Through the Commercial Energy Conservation and Efficiency Program there are rebates available for energy upgrades of up to $10,000. This amount is calculated as the lower of 25% of renovation costs or 5 times annual energy savings.
The Energy Conservation Program is administered by The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Government of the Northwest Territories. This program supports projects which reduce the use of electric and heat energy, and water throughout the NWT.
Energy North is currently exploring financing options for our customers and will post a notice on our Homepage when it is available.
